On the first day you gathered information and should now have either; a bunch of information on your computer desktop or a pile of papers with information about the gigs you’ve done before.
If you are brand new to family show performing you should have a list of churches and schools (or other venues you want to work) in the radius of where you are willing to travel.
Today, our goal is to find the groups most likely to book you for a Halloween gig.
Â
If you’ve been performing for a while, you probably have people who have booked you year after year.
For example, I have a school that books be every year the Friday before Halloween.
There is a large church that books me for their Fall Festival that is the Sunday before Halloween each year.
There is a Day Care that always wants my Trick or Treating Safety Show each year.
Today I want you to go through the information you gathered yesterday and find ten gigs that are most likely to book you.
Put them in order with number one being the gig you think is easiest to book (down to number ten).
Think about the people who have you back year after year.
Also, people who loved you last time.
Â
Ten Gigs
Find ten gigs that will be easy to book with a phone call.
Spend about fifteen minutes looking through all the information.
Don’t forget about groups that loved you before the pandemic.
There are many groups that are resuming Halloween events this year after skipping a couple of years.
Â
What about new performers?
If you are brand new to performing and don’t have a list of ten previous clients you will look through the list of names you gathered yesterday that are close to you.
Since you are new to this and you don’t have a track record you will need to gather twenty names.
Look for churches that have fall festivals.
Here’s a hint, it is not just the huge churches in your area that need family show professionals.
Many churches have events and mid-sized churches are often easier to approach. Also, in the United States and other places many schools have Halloween events. So, look at schools as well. Often elementary schools are a little easier to book.
Day Cares are often looking for performers. However, day cares typically will pay less than other groups. If you are just starting out, this can be a good way to make some money and build your reputation in the community.
Â
Pick twenty places you’d love to perform.
Look at the Facebook page and website to see how much they are promoting the event.
This is a judgment call, but usually the more a group promotes the event, the more they are likely to be willing to hire you.
For seasoned performers and newbies, today’s mission is to find the people most likely to book you.
